Deciding What Type Of Desk You Need
So you have made the big decision (or it may have been made for you) to work from home. You are excited, perhaps a little apprehensive, but can’t wait to get on with things. You just need the basic office furniture to begin your new adventure.
Or maybe you are an old hand at working from home. Up until now, you have made do with an old desk that you “inherited” from someone or somewhere. And now you have become accustomed to your new work pattern you’ve made the decision to upgrade your office furniture.
It could of course be that you own a company and have realized that your office desks need updating. After all, you want the office layout to look the part when clients visit.
Whatever your circumstances, you need to make sure that you get it right.
And considering we are nearly a quarter of the way through the 21st century (I know…where did those years go?) it would make sense to seriously consider fitting modern desks as opposed to “making do”.
Will It Be Right For My Office?
When it comes down to the decision of style, colour, size, and whether it will work for you, these are considerations that only you can make.
For example, it’s no good going for a small computer desk if your work entails having masses of books or documents that you constantly need to refer to. In a short time, I can guarantee that the floor area surrounding your desk will be a no-go area. Equally, it’s pointless installing a large desk if you have limited space.
These may sound obvious things to consider, but you would be amazed at how many people are influenced by glossy sales photos that look good but are totally impracticable.
So, stand back, think about your required layout, use a tape measure, and check the space available. Just those few actions could save you hours of heartache. And my strong advice is to double-check your measurements!
Consider Your Chair
Again, at the risk of stating the obvious don’t forget to check if your office chair is going to fit your new desk. Think about the space available under the desk. The last thing you want to do is bash your knees every time you swivel. You may consider reading another post on this site entitled What is the most comfortable office chair?
In Conclusion
You really should consider achieving a coordinated look to your working area. This may not be possible all in one go if financial restrictions dictate. But if you think ahead, modern offices can combine desks, chairs, filing cabinets, etc that will not only look good but will enable you to work in comfort and increase productivity.
But most of all, when you finally make that purchase, start to enjoy your newfound enthusiasm for work!
